The 5-Minute Website Audit Every Business Owner Should Do Right Now

April 11, 2026·4 min read·By HansiTech

You don't need to be technical to audit your own website. You just need 5 minutes, your phone, and this checklist. Run through it right now — before a potential customer does it for you and decides to call someone else.

Step 1: Open Your Site on Your Phone (2 minutes)

Don't use your laptop. Open your website on your phone, on mobile data (turn off Wi-Fi). You're simulating what most of your customers actually experience.

  • Does the page load in under 3 seconds? If not, that's a problem.
  • Does the text fit the screen without horizontal scrolling?
  • Can you read the text without pinching to zoom?
  • Is the navigation menu easy to open and use?
  • Is there a visible phone number on the first screen?
  • Does tapping the phone number open your dialer?

Step 2: Check Your Homepage Message (1 minute)

Read your homepage as if you know nothing about your business. Within 5 seconds, can you answer:

  • What does this business do?
  • Where do they serve?
  • Why should I choose them over a competitor?
  • What should I do next?

If those answers aren't obvious within seconds, you're losing customers who don't want to hunt for basic information.

Step 3: Find Your Contact Page (30 seconds)

As a new visitor, try to find your contact information. How many taps does it take?

  • Is there a contact form that works?
  • Is your phone number and email clearly listed?
  • If you have a physical location, is the address there?
  • Is there a Google Maps embed or a link to get directions?

Step 4: Google Your Business (1 minute)

Open a new browser and search your business name. Then search "[your service] + Whitehorse" (or your city). Check:

  • Does your Google Business Profile appear when you search your name?
  • Is the information correct (hours, phone, address)?
  • Are there any reviews? Are they recent?
  • When you search your service + city, do you appear in the first 3 map results?

Step 5: Check Your Site Speed (30 seconds)

Go to pagespeed.web.dev in a new tab. Enter your website URL and run the test. Look at the mobile score:

  • 90–100: You're in great shape.
  • 50–89: Needs work. Customers are likely noticing.
  • 0–49: This is actively costing you customers and rankings.

Scoring Your Audit

For each check above, give yourself a pass or fail:

  • 0–2 fails: Your site is in decent shape with minor improvements to make.
  • 3–5 fails: Your site has real problems that are costing you leads.
  • 6+ fails: Your website is actively working against you. It needs a rebuild.

Be honest with yourself. The checklist doesn't lie, and your customers are running a version of this test every time they land on your page.
